Official Nepal Rastra Bank exchange rates, one call at a time.

Ask for today's rate or any day back to 2000, by AD or Bikram Sambat date. Get the full NRB table in NPR, or one currency with your amount converted both ways. On holidays you get the last published table and a flag saying so.

What you get back

  • Full table: buy, sell and mid in NPR for every currency NRB publishes, per unit and per quoted unit
  • One currency with an amount converted at buy, sell and mid, and back from NPR
  • A series of up to 31 days for one currency
  • rateDate and rateDateBs telling you which day's table was used; fallback: true on holidays

Call it over HTTP

No account and no API key. The first response is 402 Payment Required with the price; an x402-capable client pays in USDC on Base and retries. You're only charged when the call succeeds.

curl -i -X POST https://api.exepal.com/v1/south-asia/forex \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"currency":"USD","amount":100,"date":"2083-01-15"}'
# → 402 Payment Required (price, network: base, pay-to address)
# An x402 client pays in USDC and retries → 200 with the JSON answer

Use it from Claude, Cursor or any MCP client

Add https://api.exepal.com/mcp as a remote MCP server. The tool is south_asia_forex, at the same price.

Questions

Where do the rates come from?
Nepal Rastra Bank's own published exchange-rate data. Today's table is cached for 30 minutes and past days for 7 days.
What happens on a public holiday?
NRB doesn't publish on holidays, so you get the last table before that date with fallback set to true.
Am I charged if NRB is down?
No. The call returns a 502 and no payment settles.
